This visual study delves into the haunting reality of North Korea’s detention
rooms, bringing to life the objects used within these spaces—objects that
have been recreated from the testimonies of escapees due to the lack of
visual documentation. By visualizing these items, the artwork serves as
a powerful medium to convey the brutality endured by those detained,
offering a tangible representation of the violence that is often difficult to
grasp through words alone. This approach is aligned with Korea Future’s
pioneering visual investigations, which combine digital modeling, survivor
accounts, and other innovative methods to document the systemic human
rights violations within the North Korean penal system. Through this visual
narrative, the artwork not only raises awareness but also reinforces the call
for justice and accountability for the atrocities still occurring within the
North Korean regime.
It has been displayed in the for the upcoming exhibition at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands through the fundings of Korea Future.
